Little Caesars Arena is far more than just the home of the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings and the NBA’s Detroit Pistons—it’s a dynamic entertainment hub, a catalyst for Detroit’s ongoing revitalization, and a key connector between the city’s downtown and midtown districts.
Led by Barton Malow, in partnership with Hunt and White Construction (BMHW), the project was delivered on time for a high-profile launch that included concerts and home openers for both teams. Originally budgeted at $450 million when it was planned solely for the Red Wings, the scope expanded significantly with the late addition of the Pistons as co-tenants. Despite the expanded requirements, the project was completed on schedule in just 28 months, with a final contract value of $862 million, on budget and exceeding expectations in quality and execution.
Olympia Development of Michigan’s bold vision for a cutting-edge, multipurpose arena came to life through striking design and innovative construction. Rising eight stories, with the bowl floor set 40 feet below street level, Little Caesars Arena features gondola seating, a dramatic SkyDeck supported by a modular tension wire grid, and a suspended steel frame, creating a visually arresting interior that enhances the fan experience.
Beyond its architectural impact, the arena also made a significant contribution to the community. BMHW was committed to workforce development and local engagement, partnering with small and mid-sized subcontractors and hosting seven career expos to provide Detroit residents with access to training, apprenticeships, and long-term career opportunities in the trades.
